In PR we get to work with so many talented and interesting individuals, but never get to spend enough time together face-to-face. Communicating with people is what we do, yet too much of the time it is from behind our desk or with our ear pressed to the phone.
We decided to change that this year, and bring everyone together to lend a helping hand to those less fortunate, thanks to a partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities and their volunteer dinner programme.
Ronald McDonald House Charities New Zealand creates and supports programmes that strengthen Kiwi families throughout their children’s medical journeys, ensuring they are better placed to cope while their children heal. They really think of everything to maintain the comforts of home - from open spaces and natural light, an on-site school, comfy lounges and scattered toys to play with, right through to home cooked meals several nights a week.
Here at the FoodGroup, we are firm believers a plate of good food among family is good for the heart and soul, so we jumped at the chance to be involved. Together with a bunch of our FoodGroup friends, we were tasked with cooking a two course meal for 150 well-deserving families staying in the house.
With a number of talented foodies in the kitchen, we managed to whip up a meal in no time. Led by house ambassador Vanessa Baxter, we created a menu that was both delicious, yet comforting for the families – roast beef and turkey, smoked fish salad, roast veges and a selection of steamed greens. For dessert, mini deconstructed banoffee pies.
The experience was fantastic, the food was scrumptious, and we all got to be a part of a truly inspiring programme.
If you are keen to give back in 2017, want to step back from the desk and connect with your colleagues, or better yet – do both, then get in touch with Ronald McDonald House Charities, there are a number of volunteer options available.
Thanks to our superb team, it was a pleasure cooking with you all.
